We continue to make progress on Eternal Route 66. We are learning alot as we go along. We still hope to have the book ready by Christmas. I'm doing as much as I can, but there are some things that only Chuck can do. Our biggest challenge is Chuck finding the time. Prayers appreciated.
Ann
Dear Family, Just wanted you all to know about our website that Rich has set up. Go to www.eternalroute66.com and check it out. Love to you all, Ann & Chuck
Eternal Route 66 exists to encourage Route 66 travelers to get to know God by relating the sights, sounds, history, and people of the old road to the 66 books of the Bible.
From April 12 - May 7, 2004, we drove Route 66, from Chicago, to Santa Monica, writing, photographing, and meeting some great people along the route to produce a book. Keep watching this web site for the date the book will be available.
Route 66 is the story of normal people. It's about cafes, motels, road beds, and shops, where people have gone and shared good times and life. It's where local people rub shoulders with travelers, and lives are enriched. Stop in at the Log Cabin Inn, Pontiac, IL, Granny's Saw Mill Cafe, in Rolla, MO, The Blue Front Restaurant in Amarillo, TX, The Brown Mug in Winslow, AZ, The Downtown Diner in Flagstaff, AZ, The Wagon Wheel, in Needles, CA, or the Ludlow Cafe, Ludlow, CA, and you get local flavor and the feel of the old road.
Hi, Everyone--
Here we are in Kingman, AZ. We are staying 2 nights at the Best Western Kings Inn. We pray that God will bless all of these motels for their generosity ...
We are enjoying a day of rest, doing laundry, and catching up on some things. Plus, Kingman’s annual Rt 66 Fun Run is tomorrow, at which there will be some 700+ classic cars. Chuck couldn’t miss that - that’s why we’re staying 2 nights here.
It’s hard to believe we’re only a week away from coming home. We have decided to sell our car to Herb and Renee’s son, Branden, in Santa Monica. We will be flying home Friday, May 7, arriving (I think) early evening. Chuck has written up through Colossians, which means he’s right on schedule. God continues to give us all kinds of inspiration and experiences to write about. Chuck has gathered enough sermon illustrations to last the rest of his life!
Grand Canyon was fabulous. There are really no words to describe it, as you know, if you’ve seen it.
Must run for now. We love and appreciate you all.
Ann and Chuck
Hey, Everybody!
We are emailing from the library in Rolla. Sheila, your computer is working fine; however, the connection at the hotel we stayed in last night wasn't good. So, we decided just to find the library.
We've already had some wonderful experiences. We've yet to have a bad dining experience. I told Chuck this morning it would be good if we would occasionally have a bad dining experience, so we (for once) wouldn't eat ALL of our meal! :)
We are both doing well. God has blessed us with good weather and safe travel. Driving thru St Louis via Rt 66 is a little more tedious than driving thru in on I-44.
Here are a few specific messages:
Patty and Brent, we are looking forward to seeing yall on Sunday afternoon. We'll be in touch by phone.
Dick, you wouldn't believe the huge plate of biscuits and gravy we saw at Granny's Sawmill Cafe this morning. Mary, we got your email this morning. Thanks for sending it.
Johanna, we have been in an architect's dream! The old houses, especially in Southern Illinois were fabulous. We kept saying we wished you were here to tell us about the styles of the houses. Maybe someday, you and Rich can travel this area and see what we're talking about. Give our son a hug from us.
Thanks, all of you, for your prayers. You are on our hearts, and we are praying for you as we travel.
Love,
Chuck and Ann Tue, Apr. 13th, 2004, 03:20 pm Travelin' Rt 66
Hey, from Dwight, IL!!
We had an opportunity to email you from Dwight Public Library, and wanted to say hello. We're doing great. We ended up staying at the Best Western Grant Park, in downtown Chicago, last night.
Our flights were fine yesterday. Also, getting the rental car, driving to Willow Creek to pick up our car, and driving back to the airport to return the rental went fine. However, by the time we had eaten dinner and gotten to our hotel, we were pretty pooped. Dining has been great, so far. We've already seen some neat vintage Rt 66 sights. We're pleased with the car. It's running well. We're almost to our next destination, Pontiac, IL.
More later. Mary, thanks for forwarding this on. Love to you all.
Chuck and Ann Mon, Apr. 12th, 2004, 06:04 pm First Report!
A note from Ann's sister, Patty, to Chuck's parents, Dick and Mary, after the first day of travel.
Dear Dick & Mary, Well, I couldn't wait any longer so I just had to call Ann & Chuck after work to see how this first day of the trek went. I am happy to report that it has all gone smoothly - flights were on-time, they were able to get the car and all that entailed without any hassles and when I talked to them 15 minutes ago, they were headed to their hotel for the evening. They asked if I would e-mail you & let you know this information so that you can send the first installment of the trip updates. They sounded great & happy that this first day was behind them ... and now the real fun can begin. They expressed their gratitude to everyone for the prayers that were said for them today! Just wanted to pass along the good news! Love, Patty Tue, Mar. 30th, 2004, 11:19 am Our Rt 66 Car!
Hi, everybody-- Just wanted you all to know that Dan Hybels, of the Willow Creek Cars Ministry, just called Chuck to tell him they have a car for us. It is a 1996 white Grand Prix with new brakes, new tires, black interior, "mint" condition...
Love to you all, Ann & Chuck |
